Canada-based super welterweight boxer Joshua Frazer, whose goal is to get a world ranking early next year, had another impressive victory last Saturday night when he scored a unanimous points victory over Mexican Angel Rosales in a six-round fight at the SadlonArena in Barrie, Canada, to take his record to 8-0. It was 60-54 on the scorecards of all the judges.

Frazer, who is a former Jamaica amateur champion, became a professional in December 2021 and in his first fight scored a technical knockout victory over Pablo Acosta. Last year was an exceptional one for him as he won six fights, four inside the distance, and then took a break. His first fight this year was last Saturday, and he completely dominated his opponent.

Rosales, who has been a professional since 2018 and entered the ring with a record of six wins and five defeats, made it clear from the beginning that he had come to fight. Frazer did not seem to mind because he took the opportunity to try different things to dominate his opponent, and they all worked.

He showed good boxing skills and punching power, and methodically won each of the six rounds to the delight of his corner, led by his father Dewith, who told him from time to time to “keep on doing what you are doing”. He told The Gleaner afterwards that he was pleased with how Joshua had fought, especially after not having had a fight since last November.

“He needed the work, and his instructions were to be methodical and win every round, which he did. Going the distance was good for him, and after a break for a week, he will be back in the gym as we hope to fight again in September,” Dewith Frazer said.

Joshua said that he was happy to be back in the ring, and although he “felt rusty in the early rounds”, he found his range quickly and just set out to overwhelm his opponent. “

“This fight was good for me, and I can’t wait to get back into action,” Joshua said.
