Dunkley, Williams lead 66 into NACAC Champs

THE JAMAICA Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) has named a squad of 66 under-23 athletes to represent the country at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) Championships to be held from July 21-23 in Costa Rica.

The list includes 34 under-18 athletes,14 females and 20 males, along with 32 over-18 athletes, 11 women and 21 men.

Lacovia High School’s Sabrina Dockery, who won the under-18 200 and 400 metres at the JAAA/PUMA National Senior and Junior Championships, and Edwin Allen High School’s Theianna-Lee Terrelonge, who captured the under-20 sprint double, lead the line among the under-18s.

Edwin Allen High School’s Antonio Powell, winner of the 200 and 400 metres, and St Elizabeth Technical High School’s (STETHS) Tramaine Todd, who won the 100 metres, will lead the boys’ under-18s.

Holmwood Technical High School’s Cedricka Williams, who was second in the senior women’s discus and former St Jago High quarter-miler Joanna Reid, who was seventh in the senior women’s 400 metres, will lead the under-23s.

Among the under-23 men, STETHS’s Javorne Dunkley, who won the under-20 sprint double, inclusive of a lifetime best 10.17 seconds in the 100 metres, is the leading man.

Also included are NCAA Division One and national high jump champion Romaine Beckford and GC Foster College’s Zandrion Barnes. Barnes, who was sixth in the men’s 400 metres at the National Championships, is one of five Jamaicans to have gone sub-45 seconds this season.

STETHS principal and president of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA), Keith Wellington, will manage the team, while Excelsior High School coach David Riley is the technical director.
