Primus, Bailey-Gayle believe in Reggae Girlz potential
FIRST TIMERS to the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the Reggae Girlz, Paige Bailey-Gayle and Alanta Primus, are brimming with positivity going into their first World Cup tournament, which they open against France on Sunday at the Allianz Stadium in Sydney at 5 a.m.
English-born forward Bailey-Gayle said the squad is very talented and there is a strong connection between players, as a result she expects the team to get some results at the tournament.
“Put our best foot forward and get out what we put in, win some games, score some goals and move on to the next round,” she stated.
“We have a good group of girls and with the ethos and connection we have between us, on and off the pitch, I am confident we will do better than last World Cup campaign,” she said.
She also believes they are fully prepared for the task at hand.
“We wouldn’t be here if we weren’t prepared. I think that now that we have put in the work, it is time to get in the game and put in what we have been working on,” said the Crystal Palace forward.
Primus, another English-born attacker, is excited with her first appearance at the showpiece and is confident of a good result against France.
“It is my first World Cup and it is really a blessing to be here. I am super excited for the game. We had a good week of training and a good camp leading into the World Cup and I am just excited to go out and compete.
“France is a good team. They are obviously one of the best teams in the world right now but we are confident. We have been working hard and strategising just to make things difficult for them.
“We are excited by the prospects of the game and we are going to work hard and we expect it to be a good battle,” said Primus.
According to Primus, the team is eager to show they have the experience and quality to compete with the best.
“This is my first World Cup. I think we can build on what they did last time. We have got new players in and around the team. We have built good chemistry and good camaraderie and it is going to be a good tournament for us because everyone is on the same page,” she commented.
“It is just pure excitement. You really dream of moment like this. Playing on the big stage with the best teams and the best players. It is going to be nice to be out there on the pitch. We just want to get out of the group and compete and show the world what we can do.”
