Jamaica's 16-year wait to stand on the podium at a Netball World Cup is over.

The Sunshine Girls rebounded after a heart-breaking semi-final loss to Australia to defeat New Zealand 52-45 in the third-place playoff today in Cape Town, South Africa.

Captain Jhaniele Fowler was strong again in the shooting circle with 43 goals, while Shanice Beckford scored nine.

The two did the damage at the top for the Sunshine Girls as key defensive plays saw them with a strong third quarter, giving the Silver Ferns back-to-back defeats for the first time in tournament history.

This is the first time New Zealand are finishing a Netball World Cup without a medal.
