AFTER JUST missing out on a top-three finish in the men’s 110 metres hurdles at the recent National Senior Championships, Tyler Mason continued his good form in the event at the weekend with a win in Switzerland.

Competing at the sixth Citrus meeting at the Warkdorfo Stadium in Berne, Mason clocked a meet record 13.22 seconds for the win. In their first meeting since the National Championships, Mason got the better of Orlando Bennett, the man who edged him for third spot at the National Stadium. In Berne, Bennett was second in 13.27 as Auriel Manya of France ended third in 13.49. Mason was actually winning his second race in Switzerland this season, following his win two weeks earlier in Lucern.

Amoi Brown’s rise in the female sprint hurdles continued after a big win in the 100m hurdles, clocking a personal-best 12.51 seconds for second. Brown, who also ended a close fourth in the event at the National Championships, had earlier improved her personal best in the preliminary round, where she clocked 12.58. Ditaji Kambundji of Switzerland, the under-23 European champion, posted a national and meet record 12.51 for the win. Pia Skrzyszowska of Poland finished third in a season’s best 12.59.

The next best performance from a Jamaican at the meet came in the men’s 400 metres. Rusheen McDonald, Jamaica’s s fastest man in the one-lap event this season, finished second in 45.07 seconds behind winner Emmanuel Barnidale of Norway, who stopped the clock at 44.79.

Julian Forte also had a top-three finish at the meet after placing third in the 200m in 20.53 seconds.

Sprinter Jonielle Smith, another Jamaican at the meet, was fourth in the women’s 100m in 11.28 seconds.
