Gordon, Wright mine gold at CYG

Calabar High’s Shaquane Gordon and Daniel Wright of Excelsior High were the top performers for Jamaica at the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) which ended yesterday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago.

Jamaica won four medals at the Games, two gold and two bronze, with both athletes picking up two medals each.

Gordon led the way with a record run in the boys’ 110 metres hurdles. He clocked 13.16 seconds to break the previous mark of 13.32. Noah Hanson of England took second in 13.20 with third going to Wright in 13.45.

Gordon ended third in the 100m in 10.43 seconds, the same time given to second-place finisher Ebuka Nwokaji of England. The gold medal went to Teddy Wilson of England, who won the event in 10.37.

Wright mined gold in the 400 metres hurdles, stopping the clock at 51.51 seconds. Kuda Akalanke of Sri Lanka finished second in 51.61 with third going to Oliver Parker of England in 52.36.

Bryana Davidson of St Jago High was fourth in the 100m hurdles in 13.94 seconds. Delta Amidzovski of Australia won the event in 13.25.
