SUNSHINE GIRL Latanya Wilson is grateful for the support she has received since a fire on Rum Lame, downtown Kingston, left her and more than a dozen family members out of a home.

Since then, a number of organisations have come out to offer support in different ways.

On Sunday, the Mount Pleasant Football Academy Foundation joined the list of well-wisher looking to assist Wilson.

The Sunshine Girl defender lost almost everything in the blaze, including her Netball World Cup bronze medal won in South Africa last month, her Commonwealth Games silver medal, and the Super Netball League winners medal she earned with Adelaide Thunderbirds last season”

According to Wilson, despite the heavy loss, the outpouring of support she received since the incidents reminded her how much she is “loved”.

“I want to say thank you to the Mount Pleasant Football Academy Foundation and Mr and Mrs Gould,” said Wilson after receiving a cheque for $250,000 from Mount Pleasant general manager, Paul Christie.

“A lof person have seen my story and are trying to reach out to me. The $250,000, it’s really appreciated and the more people coming on board is the faster it will help my family and myself recover from this ordeal.”

She admitted that the support she recieved was not obligatory and for persons and companies to commit so much to aid her family get back on their feet is overwhelming.

SUPPORTERS

“I just really want to say thank you for coming on board and assisting where you can. It (support) could have been bad but it is actually going good. So I want to say thanks to my supporters and Netball Jamaica.

“Seprod and others have been coming on board and a lot of persons have been reaching out and it just reminds me that I am loved and the support rolling in is fantastic,” she added.

According to Christie, it was easy to understand the plight of the netballer and the foundation did not hesitate to reach out and extend its support to the national defender.

“We understand the scenario she is facing with her family right now, so we wanted to help get things sorted as soon as possible.

“It is a no-brainer for the Mount Pleasant Foundation. Whatever we can do to assist the process, the Mount Pleasant Foundation will be helping in whatever shape or form,” said Christie.

Wilson, who has played in Australia for the past three seasons, also lost precious items such as her laptop and travel documents.
