Four Jamaicans pick up wins at European meets

JAMAICANS Natasha Morrison, Amoi Brown, Danielle Williams and Ronald Levy picked up wins at two track and field meets in Europe yesterday.

At the Citta Di Padova World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meet in Italy, Morrison, a semifinalist in the 100m at the Budapest World Championships, captured the event in 11.15 seconds. Twaneisha Terry of the United States was second in 11.21 while Jamaica’s, Briana Williams was third in 11.39. World champion Sha’Carri of the United States was slated for the meet but she did not start.

At the same meet Brown clocked 12.83 seconds to win the women’s 100m hurdles. Arma Toth (13.20) of Hungary and Japan’s Mako Fukube (13.25) were second and third respectively/

Both Michael Campbell and Tajay Gayle had second place finishes in their events.

Campbell clocked 10.28 in the men’s 100 metres behind winner Kyree King (10.27) of the United States.

Like he did three days in Zurich Gayle had to settle for the runner-up spot in the long jump with a distance of 8.00m as Tom Campagne of France won with 8.09m.

WILLIAMS WINS IN BERLIN

World champion Williams continued her good form in the women’s 100m hurdles as she picked up her second win in three days following her victory at the Zurich Diamond League last Thursday. Competing at the ISTAF Berlin Tour Silver meet inside the Berlin Olympic Stadium yesterday Williams won the 100m hurdles in 12.71. Michelle Jemneke of Australia was second in 12.89 while American Amber Hughes took third in 12.98.

Ronald Levy also picked up a win after capturing the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.45.

There was a third place finish for Jamaica’s Jonielle Smith in the 100m. She crossed the line in 11.33 behind Jenna Prandini of the United States (11.24) and Reni Rosius of Belgium who was second in second in 11.32.
