‘HEAVY is the head that wears the crown’ would be an appropriate statement to describe the pressure placed on newly appointed head coach of Kingston College Vassell Reynolds. The experienced coach, while speaking with The Gleaner following his team’s 1-0 victory over Calabar High at the Stadium East field on Saturday, shared that he’s well aware of the pressure placed on him to deliver a title, but he will block out the outside noise and focus on his task.

“It’s about understanding that this is a rebuilding process, but at the same time getting the players to realise that there is always pressure, especially with who they are representing. As a coach I’m always prepared for the competition, but now I’m building for the future,” he stated.

Reynolds, who is in his first season as coach of the famed ‘Purples’, believes that he will have to draw on his experience to help himself and his players to achieve their goals this season and stay the course.

“It’s about getting the mindset positive for the games this season, and to see how far that can take us. It’s difficult at times, but I know that this is a young group and I need to stay in the game,” Reynolds shared.

In a bid to help the players have the proper mindset needed to perform well so as to could bring out the best in each one of them, Reynolds revealed that he’s opted to continue working alongside psychologist Natalia Gregory.

“It’s something that I always do, all the titles that I have won I always had a sports psychologist beside me. I’ve always relied on one because I feel that it’s something that sports in Jamaica and worldwide needs. Most teams that are successful have a sports psychologist in their ranks,” Reynolds said.
