Promoter Tyler Buxton of United Boxing Promotions is planning a major homecoming fight for Jamaican heavyweight prospect Ricardo ‘Big 12’ Brown next year.

The pair, who reside in Canada, are currently in the island trying to get sponsorship to ensure that they stage a grand homecoming event, one the fast-rising fighter deserves.

“We are here for a few reasons, obviously, to support the Fight Nights, to help a few guys turn pro and help them make that transition and also to look at the amateurs.

“But we are mainly here to help ‘Big 12’ Brown work on an event, his homecoming fight. We are meeting some potential sponsors and supporters to gather the funding to be able to put on a large event, a big homecoming. That is the plan for the new year,” he disclosed.

“It is going well. It is just working out where is the proper location and the logistics of it, and we are still working on that.”

INCREASINGLY CLOSE

Brown has been creating waves in Canada with a 9-0 record, all won by knockout in within three rounds, and Buxton thinks the big Jamaica’s chances of a title bout continue to get increasingly close.

If he continues in the same way, Buxton said they will look to also plan the title fight in Jamaica as well.

“I think he is very close ( to a title fight). You have a long history in Jamaica, especially with heavyweights, and ‘Big 12’ is showing that he has the size and the strength.

“In his last fight he stopped the champion of the Czech Republic in two rounds. He is still 9-0, and if everything goes well for (his next fight) December 2, and he wins again, he goes 10-0, and if he gets another four or five fights next year, he can go 15-0.

“When you get in that range you are in the top 100, the top 50 in the world, and that is very close to the time to start talking titles, and if we can package that together with a homecoming and put on a large title fight here. it will be good for Jamaica and good for Ricardo,” he commented.

“But he controls his own destiny. I just line up the fights, and he keeps knocking them out.”

Meanwhile, Brown is excited at the prospect of fighting in his native country.

“My promoter and I are here working on getting sponsors. There is no timeline as yet, but we are going to work on that.

“I can’t wait to get in the ring and show people the strength I have and how I can destroy,” he said.

He also believes he is getting closer to that title shot.

“That is definitely in the plans for next year. We are just going to work on that, and as soon as that comes, we are going to go for it,” he said.
