Blue Vinyl a cinch for Mark My Word Trophy
LAST YEAR’S St Leger winner, BLUE VINYL, has performed none the worse since moving to Al Brown’s barn, making him a cinch to notch a fourth win from his last six starts, facing five rivals in Saturday’s Mark My Word Trophy at nine furlongs and 25 yards.
Reporting off a four-month lay-up with a smooth victory at nine furlongs and 25 yards on September 10, BLUE VINYL produced a late burst of speed at seven furlongs six days later to get within a short head of United States-bred speedster IS THAT A FACT on September 16.
Though he was awesome in putting away SUNSET SILHOUTTE and GET A PEPSI, really down in class after taking a crack at RUNAWAY ALGO when last raced in May, it was BLUE VINYL’s brave run against IS THAT A FACT that confirmed his status as a grade-one runner alternating between overnight and open allowance on get-out-of-jail cards since winning the St Leger.
Similar to his Mouttet Mile run last December, finishing five and a half lengths behind the best horses in the country, BLUE VINYL’s charging second to IS THAT A FACT, allowing the foreigner weight, puts him in a league above the runners he faces on Saturday.
I REALISE, BLUE VINYL’s new stablemate, had to be ridden out to last home by a short head from overnight-allowance newcomer RAINSVILLE in the Bridge 99 FM Cup at seven and a half furlongs on September 30. BLUE VINYL had effortlessly put away I REALISE at a mile in April, winning by 10 lengths on a common canter.
Back class is represented by MINIATURE MAN, who has consistently placed against grade-one runners such as ATOMICA, RUNAWAY ALGO, and SHE’S MY DESTINY since comfortably beating overnight-allowance company at nine furlongs in May.
However, BLUE VINYL’s pace, some of which he showed at exercise two Mondays past, five and a half furlongs in 1:07.4, should prove the undoing of MINIATURE MAN, who, though, retaining his class at five, simply hasn’t been the horse of previous years.
I REALISE should carry the pace for BLUE VINYL, who should slip past whenever Javaniel Patterson fancies. The chap is a patient rider, who won’t be flustered by Jason DaCosta’s pair of OUTBIDDER and MINIATURE MAN.
BLUE VINYL had absolutely cruised in his last race at nine furlongs and 25 yards, a comfortable victory, outclassing SUNSET SILHOUTTE and GET A PEPSI.
