THE PRELIMINARY round of the Urban ISSA Schoolgirls’ netball competition will step up a notch today with St Hugh’s High School hosting Campion College at home in Zone D at 2 p.m. in both junior and senior action.

Both teams are unbeaten this season, and will be seeking their third win in a row after impressive performances in their last two outings.

St Hugh’s are defending junior champions and will be hoping to maintain their unbeaten record from last year but will be wary of a very confident Campion, who are coming off a big 27-1 win over Holy Trinity in their last game.

Coach of St Hugh’s, Nardia Hanson, has been taking each game as it comes and counts this afternoon’s encounter as no different.

“We are just taking this like any other game. Just ensuring that the girls remain focused and competitive, especially owing to the fact that Campion is playing very well,” said Hanson, who is hoping to use home advantage to help with a win.

Eualee Whitney, coach of Campion, is upbeat going into today’s matches, especially the junior encounter.

“The girls are on a high as they have been playing well this season. St Hugh’s will be their toughest game so far this season, but I am confident they can pull off a win,” she said.

Two other Zone D games take place today with Greater Portmore hosting Charlie Smith in senior action and Holy Trinity staying home for the visit of Tarrant High in junior action.

In Zone E, former champions Gaynstead High are at home to Waterford in senior action while Norman Manley High face Queen’s High. Kingston Technical will go up against Wolmer’s in junior play.

Today will also see action in the rural competition with Muschett and Green Pond in Zone A junior action.

In Zone B, Green Island take on Cambridge and Lacovia play Black River in junior action.

Over in Zone C, Sydney Pagon and Maggotty also face off in junior action, while among the seniors, Hampton play Newell.
