IN THE clash of unbeaten teams in the Urban ISSA Schoolgirl netball competition yesterday between St Hugh’s High School and Campion College, the former mined bragging rights with easy wins in their Zone D senior and junior encounters.

With both schools coming into the fixture with two wins in a row, a close battle was expected, but in the end, the home team ran out easy winners, with the juniors winning 30-12 and the seniors 31-22.

The junior team, who are defending champions, got things going for the Cross Roads team with a wire-to-wire victory.

They jumped into an early 5-2 lead after the first quarter before establishing a 12-4 lead at half-time. They then went into the third quarter 25-9 before cruising to their easy win.

St Hugh’s coach, Nardia Hanson, was surprised with the easy win but gave her girls credit for the good performance.

“Both schools came into the fixture unbeaten. I was expecting two close games, but in the end, my girls were outstanding and wanted it more,” she said.

“Two of my junior players, in goal shooter Kheresha Pecco and goal keeper Kyara Johnson were in fantastic form. Pecco was perfect inside the goal circle, while Johnson marshalled the defensive area,” said an elated Hanson.

In other junior matches played yesterday, Tarrant High easily got by Holy Trinity 14-1 in a Zone D encounter, Wolmer’s Girls’ dismissed Kingston Technical 33-3 in Zone E, and Gaynstead were 24-10 over Bridgeport.

Gaynstead were also in unstoppable form in senior action, with a massive 96-2 win over Waterford.

In other senior results, Tarrant High got by Holy Trinity 58-4, Convent of Mercy Academy (Alpha) edged Greater Portmore 19-17, and Holy Childhood High stopped Dunoon Technical 20-18.
