St Catherine too good for St Jago
ST CATHERINE High dominated St Jago High in Zone B of the ISSA urban schoolgirls’ netball competition at St Catherine High yesterday.
The St Catherine juniors won 29-20 while the seniors were 41-32 winners.
In the senior game St Jago were seeking to upset the urban defending champions who came out a bit lethargic. St Jago led 8-7 before St Catherine scored three unanswered goals in the final two minutes to lead 10-8 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, both teams had several turnovers but the home team took charge to lead 21-15 at the half-time break.
With lanky goal shooter Kellian Hunter and goal attack Asharie Thomas finding their best form, the home team came out with more purpose in the third quarter as they easily dominated their rivals outscoring them 14-7 to take a 35-22 lead after the third stanza.
With a big lead going into the final quarter, coach Phyllis Thompson rested several of her starters and St Jago took advantage of this to produce their best quarter, scoring 10 goals to St Catherine’s six.
Thompson was not pleased on how her team started the game.
“At the start the girls came out a bit lazy and did not execute as I expected but I am still pleased with the win. There are some little areas that need to be fixed and this will come as the team goes forward,” said Thompson.
