World Athletics has reduced the original list of 11 women nominated for World Athlete of the Year to five and Jamaica's Shericka Jackson has made the cut.

In a spectacular year where she was unbeaten in the women’s 200 metres, Jackson won the gold medal in the half-lap event at the Budapest World Championships in a world-leading and personal best 21.41 seconds. She also captured the silver in the 100 metres, clocking 10.72 seconds.

Jackson went on to close her 2023 season in fine style, winning the Diamond League finals sprint double, establishing herself as the finest sprinter this year.

Jackson will be joined by Tigist Assefa of Ethiopia, Femke Bol of the Netherlands, Faith Kipyegon of Kenya and Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela in the final five.

There was no place on the shortlist for the woma who beat Jackson to a gold medal over 100 metres, United States’ Sha’Carri Richardson. Nor was there a place for Japan’s Haruka Kitaguchi, the Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh, Spain’s Maria Perez, Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay, and Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi.

The winner will be announced on December 11.
