THE THIRD set of matches in the second round of the ISSA Urban Schoolgirl netball competition will continue today at the Leila Robinson Netball Courts. Surprise package, St Jago High School look set to make it three from three when they tackle St Andrew High School at 1:30 p.m.

One of four unbeaten teams in the second round, with St Catherine, Norman Manley, and Gaynstead being the others, the Ardene Jones-coached St Jago are having their best run in the competition at this stage in more than 20 years.

Leaders of Group 1, jointly with Gaynstead on four points, following back-to-back wins they should easily brush aside St Andrew, who have been struggling so far.

In their opening match of the round, St Andrew were beaten 32-12 by St Hugh’s and two days ago, they were overwhelmed 28-6 by Jose Marti.

A good 31-24 win over the previously unbeaten St Hugh’s on Monday should be a good confidence booster for St Jago going into the penultimate set of matches of the round.

Former champions Gaynstead should also stay on top in the group with St Jago.

Coming off an easy 44-18 win over Immaculate Conception in their last game, they should easily get the better of Camperdown, in their 2:30 p.m. fixture. Camperdown have lost both of their matches so far.

Both Gaynstead and Norman Manley should pick up their third wins in Group 2 after their matches today. Coming off an impressive 60-17 drubbing of Tarrant on Monday, the Dalton Hinds-coached team will face St Hugh’s at 1:30 p.m.

Norman Manley have looked good in their two wins and after an easy 34-13 victory over Campion College on Monday, they are expected to get the better of Immaculate and join Gaynstead with three wins on top of the group.

In the two other senior matches today, which both start at 2:30 p.m., Jose Marti should get the better of Tarrant, while Bridgeport have the advantage against Campion.

In junior action, defending champions, St Hugh’s and Wolmer’s Girls will be involved in a crucial 12:30 p.m. match. Both teams are unbeaten.

Two other unbeaten teams, in Queen’s and Jose Marti, should continue their winning ways. Queen’s will go up against Campion at 1:30 p.m., while Jose Marti tackle Norman Manley an hour earlier.

The other junior matches will see Jonathon Grant meeting St Catherine and Immaculate squaring off with Clan Carthy.
