FOR A number of years, the likes of Christania Williams, Kevona Davis, Serena Cole, Tia, and Tina Clayton have lit up the track in the sprints for Edwin Allen High School. This season, Dyke is turning to another name he thinks is a supreme talent.

Theianna-Lee Terrelonge, a first-year Class 2 athlete at 16 years old, could surpass the achievements of the big names of the past, according to Dyke.

Despite an injury that impacted her preparation last season and with little training under her belt, Terrelonge won the Class 3 100 metres at the GraceKennedy/ISSA Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships in 11.49 seconds and was second to Wolmer’s Girls’ Natrice East in the 200-metre final with a 24.64-second clocking.

Terrelonge, at just 15 years old at the time, would go on to win the under-20 100 metres at the National Junior Championships, clocking a personal best of 11.47. She then went on to close her season in fine style, winning the under-18 sprint double at the North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Under-18 and 23 Championships in Costa Rica. She clocked 11.41 in the 100 metres and 23.53 in the 200.

This year’s pre-season is already shaping up well for Terrelonge.

A week ago, at the Foga High School Over Distance meet, Terrelonge led some outstanding performances from the Edwin Allen girls, romping to victories in 17.83 and 39.87 over the Class 2 150 and 300 metres.

“Edwin Allen will be celebrating its 60th anniversary on January 27 next year and the girls want the year’s competition to be their gift to the school,” said Dyke.

“I am expecting excellent all-round performances from the team, which is stacked with talent and experience. I expect Terrelonge to continue our excellent sprinting tradition once she remains healthy. She is currently being geared for next year’s World Under-20 Championships to be held in July,” he said.

According to Dyke, Edwin Allen have put being dethroned by Hydel High School at Champs last year behind them.

“The past season was an eventful one, which the team has already put behind them and are focusing on Champs number 10 title,” said Dyke, thanking all who have contributed to the success of the track and field programme over the years.

“In spite of this, I am using this medium to say thanks to all our coaches, support staff, teachers, administrators, led by our principal, Jermaine Harris, past students, friends, supporters, and sponsors. I hope our relationship will be even stronger as we look forward to a super 2024 season.”
