Terrelonge shines with big 100m run at JC

EDWIN ALLEN HIGH’s Theianna-Lee Terrelonge produced the best performance at last Saturday’s 30th staging of the Pure Water/JC/R. Danny Williams Development meet at the Ashenheim Stadium with a breath-taking personal best and meet record of 11.30 seconds to capture the Class Two 100 metres event and register the top time on the day among female athletes.

Terrelonge, the 2023 Central American and Caribbean championships under-18 sprint double winner, was out of the blocks very fast and pulled away from her rivals for her convincing win. Sabrina Dockery of Lacovia High was second in a personal best of 11.45 with Shanoya Douglas of Muschett High third in 11.70.

“I am very happy with my performance as I knew I was in shape to run fast, but didn”t expect that time. My coach told me in training that whenever I touched the track this season I was going to do something very special based on what I was doing,” said Terrelonge adding that she expected to go much faster during the season.

Three other athletes from the Edwin Allen were in record-breaking form. Competing in her first meet in Jamaica Kerielle Etienne out of Dominica clocked the fastest time in the Class Three 100 metres after winning her heat in a record 11.70. Wolmer’s High School Girls’ Natriece East, 11.77, and Kayla Johnson, 11.79, of Immaculate Conception High were second and third overall, respectively.

Team captain Tonyan Beckford also wrote her name in the record books after clocking a personal best 53.93 to win the 400m open. Teammate Kelly Ann Carr (55.37) was second with third going to Muschett’s Douglas in 55.53.

Rickeisha Simms was also in record-breaking form topping the Class One girls’ 800m in two minutes 13.49 seconds. Carlene Temple (2:14.65) of Alphansus Davis was second with third overall going to Abbigail Campbell (2:15.57) of Hydel.

Ferncourt High’s Rhianna Scott sent out a very strong message to her rivals in Class Four with a big performance. She raced to an impressive record run of 12.19 to win her heat. Hydel’s Teixiera Johnson was second overall in a wind-aided 12.29 with Edwin Allen’s Tashana Godfrey third in 12.47.

IMPRESSIVE RUN

Hydel’s Alliah Baker also had an impressive run at the meet. She captured the Class One 100m in 11.59 ahead of Edwin Allen’s Trezeguet Taylor (11.69) and Habibah Harris of St Elizabeth Technical, 11.75.

Hydel finished one-two in the 400m hurdles open. Aaliyah Mullings won in 1:00.68 ahead of Natassia Fletcher in 1:03.36. Jodyann Daley captured the Class Two 100m hurdles in 13.48 ahead of Tiana Marshall of Wolmer’s (13.49). Shania Myers topped the Class One 100m hurdles in 13.46.

Hosts Jamaica College (JC) had the best showing among the boys’ teams. Kemarrio Bygrave led the way in the Class One 800m with a solid 1:55.43 to win overall ahead of teammate Nellie Ambriton (1:58.80) and Kingston College’s (KC) Brian Kiprop, 1:59.22. Cavell Nooks captured the Class Three 800m for JC in an excellent 2:06. 34.

JC’s Evans Tetteh won the 5000m Open in 16:45.70 while they were first and second in the Class One 400m hurdles. Dorian Charles won in 53.27 ahead of Sean Gardener (53.64).

KC’s Chris Wanyoike captured the Class Two 800m in 1:58 57. In the Class Two 110m hurdles KC finished one-two with Tahj Oneil Gordon on top in 13.91 ahead of Jonathon Clarke, 14.51.

Other top performances on the day came from Johan Ramaldo Smythe of Muschett who won the Class Two 100m in 10.78, St Jago High Raheem Pinnock who won Class One in 10.59 and his teammate Marques Page who won the Class Three 100m hurdles in 13.01.
