In-form Bryan pleased with national call up

Having already netted 10 goals from 15 games in the 2023-24 Jamaica Premier League (JPL) season Waterhouse FC’s striker Javane Bryan is grateful after being selected a member of a local 22-man training camp that completed a recent two-day training programme with head coach, Heimir Hallgrimsson, at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence.
Bryan while speaking with JFF media shared that he shed tears of joy when he got news that he would be part of the set-up.
“I have to give thanks and praise to the most high for my first call-up in the national team as I’m grateful. I’m feeling very proud and it was tears of joy when I got that call. I had been looking forward to it for a long time,” he stated.
Bryan, who is playing in his first JPL season following his move from Tier II team Meadforest Football Club, revealed that being part of the national set-up is something that he has been eyeing for quite a while and felt that he had to make the switch from his former club to get the well-needed attention.
“I had to make that move to get that call. My mom was very happy for me as she said it’s been a while that I have been playing football so it’s my time now,” he added.
Bryan who currently leads the golden boot (leading goal-scorer) race stated that in order to maintain his top form in the league he will try and take in as much information as he can from his coaches. He added that failing to convert his chances is something that affects him as his job on the field of play is to score.
“I just have to stay humble, patient and take the chances whenever I get them, as well as listen to the coach’s advice and that’s it. Honestly, it does affect me because that’s my purpose and job on the pitch, which is to get the ball in the back of the net for my team,” Bryan added.
As for his goal-scoring target this season, Bryan revealed that he has his sights set on the 20-goal mark.
“Well, I had it at 15, but I saw where I got many chances to get it higher so my target now is 20,” he said.
