Goldson, Cole, Daley in Western Relays sprint spotlight
Kadrian Goldson, Serena Cole and De Andre Daley will be in the sprint spotlight today at the Western Relays on the grounds of the G C Foster College for Physical Education. Goldson’s mission will be to start the quest for the early acceleration to improve his overall performance at 100 metres.
Last year, he improved from 10.14 seconds to 9.94, and won the 100 metres at the World University Games. Last month, after a show of fitness at the Central Hurdles and Relays, he outlined his goals for 2023 60 metres.
“A better start, working on my first 30 metres,” the Maurice Wilson-coached sprinter said.
He begins the competitive side of that search in the 60m dash today. In his heat are Ramone Barnswell of the MVP, Goldson’s SprinTec and G. C. Foster training partners Oshane Bailey and Canada’s Brendan Rodney and Jeevan Newby of the Motorcade Track Club.
Goldson has a personal best of 6.50 seconds.
Cole, the 2022 World Under 20 100 metre runner-up, has shaved little slices off her 60m personal best this year and it now stands at 7.25. The former Edwin Allen High School standout will hope for a little bit more to outrace her MVP Track Club compatriots Janeek Brown, the 2019 World Championships 100m hurdles finalist, and Shockoria Wallace and 400m ace Roneisha McGregor, as well as 2017 World 200 metre semifinalist Jodean Williams who has run 7.20.
Newby will be busy as he will return to the track to run the 100m, against 2022 Carifta 100m winner Daley and 2023 Pan-American Games finalist Odaine McPherson. Daley, an outgoing senior at Herbert Morrison Technical, touched the track last week and covered 400m in 50.44 seconds. This will be his 100 metre seasonal debut.
Goldson, Cole and Daley are set to race at 12.31, 12.40 and 1.01 p.m., respectively.
