Waterhouse moved back into sixth place in the Jamaica Premier League, but only on goal difference ahead of Dunbeholden, after their 0-0 draw with arch rivals Arnett Gardens at the Drewsland Mini-Stadium yesterday.

Dunbeholden (27 points) had surged one point ahead earlier in the day after a 4-1 drubbing of Lime Hall at Drax Hall.

However, Marcel Gayle’s team held a spirited Arnett Gardens to a goalless draw to reclaim the number six spot in the standings but only just.

“We are focused on a top-six place, of course. So the aim is to stay in the top six, and if we can move forward, we move forward

“We are not content. We can do better, and we have been working assiduously. We have been conceding goals but two games on the trot we have cleansheets, so that is a positive going forward,” said Gayle.

Both teams created good openings in an intense first half.

Waterhouse fans thought they had the lead on the stroke of half time when Joel Jones’ unorthodox clearance off the line, from Andre Jebbison’s effort, was questioned by the home fans, who thought the assistant referee should have signalled goal.

This resulted in a spectator jumping the perimeter fence in an act of protest while an object was thrown from the stands. This caused the match to be held up for eight minutes.

After the break, Arnett Gardens (36 points) grew in the game and created more and better chances, especially through some good plays from inspirational young forward Kaheim Dixon.

Although they were unable to make use of the chances they created, Arnett Gardens coach Xavier Gilbert was satisfied with the point.

“We got the bulk of the opportunities, but it just didn’t happen for us today (Sunday). We have to continue to grind out results.

“It is important we stay with the leaders and ensure teams below us do not gain any ground. So it was not the best, but I’m satisfied.

“It’s better you get something than nothing at all, and we were mindful of that. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. So we are going to take it and move on,” he said.

Cavalier blanked Vere United 2-0 and are still on top of the league with 43 points. Mount Pleasant remain in second with 42 while Portmore United are in third with 39.
