Excelsior High are the Spaulding Cup champions after they defeated Manchester High by 185 runs at Melbourne Oval today.

Excelsior bowled out Manchester for 217 runs in their second innings after earlier, setting them 403 to win. On yesterday's first, of the three-day contest, the champions scored 218 before bowling out their opponents for 71.

The Mountain View-based Excelsior had resumed this morning on 82 for four and progressed steadily to 219 for seven at lunch before their second innings was wrapped up for 255 shortly after the resumption.

In their second innings, Manchester, led by Pajay Nelson, who scored 69, put up a better fight but constantly lost wickets that prevented a formidable challenge. Excelsior’s captain Michael Clarke was their main destroyer with four wickets for 72 runs, supported by Demarco Scott, who took three for 50.
