PJFL, Rvssian to collaborate for JPL Super Final

The popularity of the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) has grown exponentially in the four seasons Professional Football Jamaica Limited (PFJL) has taken charge of the league. This season, it has grown even more so, and chairman of the PFJL, Christopher Williams, said it will all climax with a big final.
Williams revealed that the May 19 final at the National Stadium will be dubbed the Jamaica Premier League Super Final and that it will signal the start of a new collaboration between the JPL and dance hall.
To kick-start this partnership, PFJL will salute the contribution of dancehall producer Tarik ‘Rvssian’ Johnston at this year’s final.
“The brand for the final is now Super Final,” Williams declared. “We are going to be cementing the relationship with dancehall.
“For years, there has been a strong informal relationship between the JPL and dancehall. So every year at the Super Final, we will be saluting an icon in dancehall, and this year, we will be saluting Rvssian.”
He added that all the artistes that the iconic producer has produced hits with over the years will be on show that evening, and he revealed that efforts will be made to get legendary incarcerated dancehall deejay Vybz Kartel involved.
“This will be executed by his (Rvssian) friends who have blazed the music scene going back 20 years.
“So we will be having his friends joining him to recognise and big up the contribution of Rvssian to the evolution of dancehall music.”
“I will have to link the correctional services people and see if anything is possible (for Kartel). So we will link them and ask what they can do for us,” he said.
Nevertheless, May 19 and all the JPL Super Finals after, will be an event to remember, he said.
“The ballers love dancehall and dancehall stars love the ballers, and this is cementing the partnership between dancehall and the JPL.
“The first Super Final is May 19 at the National Stadium. Come out and witness some exciting football as we crown the champions and salute Rvssian with his friends. So our Super Final will now be a full day of entertainment. A full concert before, between, and after,” Williams said.
