NATIONAL RECORD holder in the 800 metres, Navasky Anderson, is locked in to preparations for what would be his first Olympic Games in a few months’ time.

While he’s going through his paces on the training field, Anderson shared that his lifelong goal is to lift the standards of his country’s 800-metre programme.

“I’ve been primarily focusing on rigorous training and ensuring I stay injury-free. While qualifying for the Olympics is undoubtedly a great achievement, my ultimate goal is to elevate Jamaica’s 800 development to new levels,” he said.

The former St Jago and Mississippi State University standout has already represented the country at the Pan American Games, World Championships and Commonwealth Games, and believes those experiences should set him up to safely navigate through the national trials.

“Each competition has provided invaluable learning experiences, from breaking national records to clinching Jamaica’s first senior 800m medal at the Pan American Games. Those achievements have fuelled my determination and excitement as I prepare for my Olympic debut. Each step, whether at the Commonwealth Games, World Champs, or indoor and outdoor championships, has contributed to my growth and readiness for the challenges ahead in Paris,” Anderson explained.

The 24-year-old added that while it should be a given that he punches his ticket to France, he remains level-headed and continues his preparation earnestly.

“With the Olympics around the corner, I remain grounded in the belief that nothing is assured. Yet, I approach each day with unwavering faith in God, trust my coach’s guidance, and confidence in my own abilities. While the path to qualification has its hurdles, it’s these challenges that shape my character and foster personal growth,” he stated.

Anderson added that he’s mentally prepared for what lies ahead and is thankful for those in his inner circle who continue to motivate him.

“I am truly blessed to have the best support system, from my exceptional training partner and coach to the unwavering support of my mom and the entire team around me. Mentally, I’m in a good place, fuelled by the desire to bring joy to those who believe in me.”
