THE SUPREME Ventures Foundation (SVF) brought the magic of reading to life at Waterford Primary School yesterday, in celebration of Read Across Jamaica Day.

SVF volunteers from the Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL), operators of Caymanas Park, spread the joy of storytelling among eager grade-one students. Armed with a captivating collection of storybooks, including works by celebrated Jamaican authors, the volunteers brought each tale to life with engaging readings.

“Everything we do in life involves words, even in today’s increasingly digital society. We always see kids as the future of our nation, so it’s extremely important for them to be literate. For us at Supreme Ventures, we understand the good that literacy skills can do for tomorrow’s society, and how critical it is to nurture these in our future leaders. This is why we see it as imperative that we participate in activities like this,” Aswanda Stoddart, AVP administration at SVREL, said.

“Reading helps to develop their ability to communicate, further empowering them and building their confidence in their dreams and enabling them to use their imaginations, and helping them to articulate how they feel or what they need, rather than fighting it out. Reading helps them to dream beyond their environment.”

Further enriching the school’s resources, the foundation donated a selection of books to the library, ensuring a year-round haven for young imaginations. To fuel the students’ literary enthusiasm, book vouchers valued at $5,000 each and exciting prizes were distributed.

The activation also received a special guest.

Jamaican Rally Driver Fraser McConnell, a JustBet ambassador, interacted with grade-three students, sharing his own experiences and emphasising the power of reading in achieving one’s dreams. His inspirational message resonated with the young audience, highlighting the connection between literacy and a bright future.

“As simple as reading may seem to some, it is a critical skill that we need to ensure that our young people have and hone. Reading can help our students, our future leaders find their passion, flex their imaginations and really excel in the future. I’m so happy to have been here with my Supreme Ventures family to participate in Read Across Jamaica Day. It was an amazing experience and I look forward to being involved next year as well,” said McConnell.

Through the visit, the Supreme Ventures Foundation seemed to have sparked a love for reading among the students at Waterford Primary.

By providing access to books, promoting the joy of storytelling, and fostering a connection between reading and achieving goals, the foundation empowered young minds to embark on a lifelong journey of learning and exploration.
