Impressive Binns helps STETHS to T20 triumph
AN UNBEATEN 71 from St Elizabeth Technical High School’s (STETHS) Odane Binns propelled his team to an eight-wicket victory over a game Tacky High School in the ISSA/TVJ T20 final at the Sir P Oval yesterday.
Tacky, who racked up 159 for nine from their 20 overs, were overrun when STETHS responded with 157 for two in just 18.3.
Sent into bat, Tacky started nervously, with openers Trevaune Williams and Javere Green surviving instances of miscommunications. Still, the two managed 46 without loss in the Powerplay.
The introduction of Tyriek Bryan, STETHS captain, changed the game, immediately sending Williams back to the pavilion for 30.
Even though Green kept his composure, wickets tumbled around him.
Green would end up scoring an even 50 against Bryan’s 5-27 and Kevoni Graham’s 3-29.
In reply, STETHS had a less-than-ideal start, with Kevaun Brown trapped leg before wicket off the first ball from the bowling of Kevone Wynter.
Despite that hiccup, a partnership worth 98 between Bryan (30) and Odane Binns steadied the ship.
When Bryan went, there was still some work to do, and Graham chipped in with an unbeaten 40 to help STETHS coast to victory.
Carl Wright, head coach of STETHS, said it took hard work from the team and praised the performance of Bryan.
“It was a tremendous effort as we’ve being working hard for the entire season. He’s (Bryan) been tremendous for us throughout the season, and he’s one for the future,” said Wright.
Costly mistake
Sheldon Pryce, head coach of Tacky, said there was a costly mistake in what was an otherwise good contest.
“For me it was an excellent performance by the boys even though we didn’t manage to pull off the victory. Today, we didn’t take our catches, and we dropped Binns on two occasions, and he was the one who made the bulk of the score,” said Pryce.
in the third-place playoff, Manchester thumped Clarendon College by nine wickets.
Clarendon first scored a competitive 150-9 from 15 overs, but Manchester, 154-1, were unbothered thanks to Matthew Morgan’s unbeaten 99 from just 45 deliveries.
