REGGAE GIRL Tiffany Cameron isn’t just excited about a pair of international friendlies against Brazil, she’s also tickled pink at the prospect of reuniting with coach Hubert Busby, who, she believes, will provide a boost to the national programme.

Cameron was a member of the squad that represented Jamaica at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, where the nation made history, becoming the first Caribbean nation to advance from the group stage.

Following their campaign, the squad withdrew their services from the national programme following disputes with the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF).

With the full contingent of players now available for selection, Cameron is looking forward to a reunion with Busby, the coach she credited for her first call-up to the national programme.

“Coach Busby was the one who recruited me years ago to play for Jamaica, so we have a solid connection,” she said.

“He has taken the time to get to know me well as a person and player, and I respect him. I expect him to pick up where he left off with us in 2021. He worked behind the scenes to recruit the right personnel to help improve the women’s programme.”

Cameron views the Brazil fixtures as a major test for the Reggae Girlz after the teams last met in the group stages of the Women’s World Cup.

Brazil, needing a win against Jamaica to advance to the round of 16, were held to a scoreless draw. The result meant that Brazil would not advance to the round of 16 for the first time since the 1995 Women’s World Cup.

Cameron, like Busby, expects an intense meeting.

“I’m excited to be back in national colours again, and I’m looking forward to a challenging matchup against Brazil. It’s important for us to stay defensively disciplined and choose the right moments to threaten Brazil’s backline.”

The Reggae Girlz will face Brazil on June 1 and June 4, with both games set to be played in Brazil.
