Tier II spot on the line for the first time
THE KINGSTON and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Major and Championship League climax this evening at the Anthony Spaulding Complex with Boys’ Town facing the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) in the Championship League final at 7:30, while Duhaney Park take on August Town in the Major League decider at 5 p.m.
In the Championship League semifinals last weekend, Boys’ Town survived an early onslaught from Olympics Gardens to come away with a 4-1 victory on penalties. The teams had ended 0-0 after regulation and extra time.
Boys’ Town goalkeeper Adrian Murray was the hero of the night with two saves in the penalty shootout.
“In training, we have worked on penalty kicks and I always save a good amount and the crucial one. So I am glad I could save two to bring my team through,” the shot-stopper commented while expressing confidence to go on and lift the title.
In the other semifinal, Sheldon Ragreir scored the game’s only goal in the second half to give the JDF a 1-0 win over the Neville ‘Bertis’ Bell-coached Constant Spring, who were favourites going into the match.
The winners of next season’s Major League will officially take up their place in the Jamaica Football Federation Tier Two competition for the first time since the competition’s inception in 2022.
Meadforest took up KSAFA’s spot in the league’s first season, but that was against a mandate from the association restricting its clubs from participation.
Meanwhile, Duhaney Park and August Town will square off for the Major League trophy after identical 2-0 wins over Cooreville and Seaview Gardens, respectively, in the semis.
Duhaney Park stopped neighbours and rivals Cooreville through a first-half stoppage-time goal from Kemar Reid and an added-time goal from Tajay McIntosh.
August Town got their goals from Jevaney Johnson and Ika Hudson in their win over Seaview Gardens.
Both Major League finalists advance to the KSAFA Championship next season.
