Fred The Great looks good against overnight allowance company

CONSIDERING HOW FRED THE GREAT chased and put away PROVOCATIVA at seven furlongs, SISTREN TREASURE and ATLANTIC CONVOY will lack the turn of foot to go with the colt whenever he is asked to kick by Tevin Foster in Saturday’s overnight allowance at a mile.

ATLANTIC CONVOY and SISTREN TREASURE, who both won at a mile late last year, followed by strong efforts at seven furlongs.

ATLANTIC CONVOY featured in a dead-heat with FURTHER AND BEYOND on February 25 whereas SISTREN TREASURE actually finished third behind GET A PEPSI and, notably, FRED THE GREAT’s stablemate, last year’s St Leger winner, THALITA, in May’s Labour Day trophy.

FRED THE GREAT was slowly into stride and laboured in the Labour Day Trophy. THALITA tried making all but ran smack into fit-as-a-fiddle GET A PEPSI, who franked the form of getting within almost touching distance of another Jason DaCosta classic winner from last year, MAMMA MIA, on March 30 at seven and a half furlongs.

ATLANTIC CONVOY has been looking sharp at exercise but was scratched lame out of March’s Saint Cecelia Trophy. Though no match for former stablemate ABILITY, I AM FRED and BOOTYLICIOUS in the May 25 I’msatisfied Trophy at six furlongs, ATLANTIC CONVOY should have done better as the 7-5 favourite two Sundays ago was fifth behind THALITA at six and a half furlongs.

SISTREN TREASURE will relish the trip but had a hard time keeping up with PROVOCATIVA, who led NEO STAR down the backstretch and into the lane at nine furlongs and 25 yards last week Monday.

Immediately after his dour run behind GET A PEPSI, SISTREN TREASURE, and THALITA, FRED THE GREAT returned 10 days later, June 2, to close rapidly for second behind JOY IS GOLDEN at five furlongs straight.

Though primarily a run-on sprinter, FRED THE GREAT’s charging at PROVOCATIVA, who set strong splits of 34.0, 46.0, 59.0 and 1:12.0, returning to carry NEO STAR for a long way at nine furlongs and 25 yards, points to 1:25.4 as a solid marker time.

FRED THE GREAT’s sweeping move to chase down PROVOCATIVA was an eye-catching win, worthy of giving the colt a good chance of beating overnight-allowance winners on his first run at the level.
