Young Reggae Boyz look to rebound from thumping

JAMAICA’s UNDER-20 Reggae Boyz will look to rebound from their humiliating 9-0 defeat to the United States in their opening Concacaf Under-20 Championship encounter when they take on Costa Rica in their second match in Group A at the Estadio Miguel Alemán Valdés, Celaya, today at 6 p.m.

The young Reggae Boyz sit at the foot of the standings without a point, while the United States lead the early exchanges on three points, followed by Costa Rica and Cuba with a point each.

Jerome Waite’s team will fancy putting in a better performance and getting a better result against the Costa Ricans, who were not impressive in their 1-1 draw with Cuba.

However, even if the young Boyz do not get all three points today, a point against the ‘Ticos’ would keep the young Boyz in the hunt for a quarterfinal berth. A top-three finish in the group could still see them advance.

The only other time the teams met in this competition took place in 2022, the game ending in a 1-1 draw.

The young Boyz are scheduled to play their final group game against Cuba on Thursday.

In Group B, which started on Saturday, Dominica were 1-0 losers against El Salvador, while Honduras and Canada played to a 2-2 draw.

Panama blanked Guatemala 3-0 yesterday in Group C action.
