Dixon set for medical at English League One club Charlton
National forward Kaheim Dixon is set to undergo a medical today at English League One club Charlton Charlton Athletic, who have already started the process for his work permit.
Arnett Gardens General Manager Peter Thelwell does not foresee any obstacles for the 19-year-old as he underwent a rigorous medical before he began playing for the club in last season’s Jamaica Premier League and nothing unusual medically came up in his assessment.
“He had to pass our medical to play. He did a rigorous medical here. But I do not know how rigorous their medical is, but he was cleared here. We saw no abnormalities,” Thelwell said. “Sometimes when a player goes overseas they find problems with them, like their heart and such, but there’s nothing like that with him. So we expect everything to go well.”
According to reports in England, the club has already started the application process for Dixon’s work permit, but it is unclear how long it will take for the permit to be granted. Charlton are hoping there are no issues with the player receiving a work permit, as the club believes his outings at the Copa America tournament should help his cause.
Thelwell is also confident that the player will overcome this hurdle.
“I don’t think Charlton would have pursued him as vigorously as they did if they were not sure they could do it. So I believe they think they have a good chance of getting him, so I am not worried,” Thelwell added.
The Arnett Gardens general manager said the player was in fine spirits as he departed the island on Saturday, and the former Clarendon College star was looking forward to the next chapter in his career.
He added that it would also be a great exposure for the club.
“It would be a good thing because financially, we will get some reward. And it means that the club would be seen as one that nurtures and develops talent for the transfer market. We want to attract young, talented, quality players to the club. That is how we are looking at things right now. We want to attract young, quality players and develop them for the transfer market,” Thelwell said.
