Lowe looks forward to ‘new chapter’ in Saudi Pro League

JAMAICAN INTERNATIONAL Damion Lowe says his transfer to Saudi Pro League club Al-Akhdoud marks a new chapter in his career as he calls time on his stint in Major League Soccer (MLS).

Lowe signed a two-year contract with Al-Akhdoud for an undisclosed fee, joining a list of international players who have been making the move to Saudi Arabia over the past few years.

He expressed excitement ahead of the move, stating that the increased passion for football in Saudi Arabia played a role in his decision to sign for his new club.

“Playing in the Saudi Pro League is a thrilling new chapter in my career,” Lowe said.

“I’m eager to bring my best to the pitch, embrace the culture, and make an impact both on and off the field. The recent passion for football there is incredible, and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

Lowe says the transfer represents change in his career and he is ready to take his talents to the city of Najran, where Al Akhdoud is based.

Lowe’s move to the Saudi Arabian league will see him joining fellow Reggae Boyz Demarai Gray, who also made the switch to the Saudi Arabian league last summer from Premier League outfit Everton.

The transfer sees an end to Lowe’s time with Philadelphia Union, where he played alongside Reggae Boyz teammate and captain Andre Blake.

He made 47 appearances for Philadelphia Union and scored thrice since signing for them in January of last year.

In his first season at the club, Lowe made 20 appearances in the MLS, with Philadelphia making it to the Eastern Conference semi-finals, where they were defeated 1-0 by FC Cincinnati.

Lowe’s last game for the Union came in the league’s cup quarterfinals against Mazatlan, where he came on as a second-half substitute.

He would go on to score a penalty as Philadelphia defeated Mazatlan 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time.

Al-Akhdoud finished 15th last season in their debut campaign in the Saudi Pro League.
