The boys from Heroes’ Circle will be hoping that they can bring their win record in the ISSA Manning Cup to seven in a row when they travel to face St Mary’s College today in Zone E action.

The Wolmerians have been enjoying life in the first round and have taken firm control of their zone with maximum 18 points from their first six games.

They will be confident that they can notch another win to their tally when they face St Mary’s College in an away match most would deem a routine three points.

In the reverse fixture earlier in the round, Wolmer’s routed St Mary’s College 8-0 at the Mico University College field and will be looking to do the same again.

Wolmer’s head coach, Jerome Waite, was initially wary of his team’s chances before the start of the season due to their relative lack of experience. Following their most recent 5-1 drubbing of Denham Town High, Waite said there is still much more for his players to improve on as they set their sights on the second round.

“We still have four more games before we think of the next round. These youngsters, they still have a lot to learn as they are not executing as expected. It is a long road, and it only can get better as the season progresses,” he explained.

For St Mary’s College, the focus will be to finish their campaign as strong as possible as they have already been mathematically eliminated at the first round of competition. The team has been winless so far this season, with their only reprieve being a 2-2 draw against Denham Town High.

Crunch Time

St Jago High will also be in action as they welcome Edith Dalton James High in a must-win fixture for the Spanish Town-based school.

They currently sit third in the zone with 12 points behind second-placed Tivoli High with 15.

St Jago will be hoping that they can close the gap on the zone leaders before facing a tough schedule with back-to-back games against Tivoli and Wolmer’s.

Their second-round ambitions will be dependent on how well they can navigate their final four games of the zone, knowing that a single slip-up could spell the end of their campaign.

All games are scheduled to kick off at 3:30 p.m.
