Two big wins for Denbigh in rural schoolgirls netball
DENBIGH HIGH continued their good early season form in the rural schoolgirls ISSA netball competition with wins in the junior and senior divisions this week.
Playing in Zone F the Winston Nevers-coached Denbigh whipped Old Harbour High 34-2 in the juniors before their seniors completed the double, winning 48-2.
Last year’s junior finalists, Holmwood Technical, got off to a winning start in Zone D action on Wednesday as the Carline Graham-Powell-coached team overpowered Porus High 52-4.
Coach Graham-Powell was pleased with the win but said her girls will have to improve going forward.
“The girls started off a bit shaky as they were very nervous and in the first quarter there were many turnovers. However, as the game progressed they showed improvement, but they did not play the kind of netball I expected from them,” said Graham-Powell.
There was also action in the urban area on Wednesday. Camperdown High were the biggest winners on the day. Playing in Zone E, the Wayne Stewart-coached senior team dispatched Papine High 42-5. Earlier Papine came out on top in the junior match after getting past their opponent 26-20.
