ST CATHERINE High School have confirmed their spot in the second round of the ISSA Manning Cup after defeating Papine High 3-0 in comfortable fashion yesterday in Zone G action at the Papine High School field.

The win sees St Catherine moving to 16 points from six games and puts them out of reach of third-place Norman Manley with four.

They are also three points behind zone leaders St George’s College (STGC). However, St Catherine have played one less game and could pull level with the boys from North Street should they defeat Norman Manley in their next outing.

Rajae Taylor opened the scoring for St Catherine when he blasted home in the first half after a delivery from the corner spot found itself at his feet.

Despite waves of pressure, St Catherine were not able to find their next goal before the half-time whistle.

Dwight Gentles would be the next name on the team sheet as his rapid second-half brace sealed all three points for his team.

Also in action in the zone, STGC continued their unbeaten run to seven games as they dispatched Norman Manley High 3-1 in their fixture at Maxfield Park.

In Zone E action, St Jago were defeated 3-1 at home by Tivoli Gardens High in a game which could prove fatal to their chances of qualifying to the next round from an automatic qualifying spot.

St Jago, with 15 points from their seven games, are now six points behind their zone rivals Wolmer’s Boys and Tivoli Gardens, both level on 21 points, with only two games left to play.

Wolmers, however, will have the chance to move three points clear of Tivoli Gardens at the top when they face off against Edith Dalton James High in an away fixture today.

The Wolmerians will enter knowing a point against Edith Dalton James will be enough to see them through to the next round.

Hydel also secured their spot to the next round when they cruised past Clan Carthy High in a 4-0 drubbing.

Hydel move to 15 points in Zone B, trailing zone leaders Eltham on 18.

Hydel will next face Dunoon Park Technical on Friday before their highly anticipated rematch against Eltham next week Friday.
