THERE WILL be a new face at the helm of the St Thomas Football Association (FA) in the coming days, as outgoing president Wayne Thompson has said he will not be going up for re-election, come their annual general meeting (AGM), set for October 26 at the SDC Morant Bay Office.

Lasscelles Logan, first vice-president of the St Thomas FA, will succeed Thompson as president of the parish association.

Speaking with The Gleaner regarding his intentions, Thompson explained his decision is not a surprise to the St Thomas FA, as it has been years in the making.

He had initially planned to step down from his role during the previous election. However, he was dissuaded by members of the association who had felt it was not the right time.

“The decision not to seek re-election would have been planned some four years ago,” he said.

“In fact, my intention was to step down from the previous election. However, the members thought it was a little premature.”

Meanwhile, Thompson said the association is in a state where he is ready to step aside for a new president to emerge.

He is confident of a smooth transition, as his departure from office will precede his new role as one of four directors of the parish association.

The St Thomas FA also confirmed his new appointment in a press release about the upcoming AGM.

“The St Thomas Football Association (FA) will undergo a leadership change, with Lasscelles Logan, a former army officer and current first vice-president, taking the reins from outgoing president, Wayne Thompson,” the press release read.

“Outgoing President Wayne Thompson will serve as one of four directors, supporting the new executive for the next four years. This change marks a new chapter for the St Thomas FA, bringing fresh perspectives and expertise to the organisation.”

The St Thomas FA is suspended by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) for having failed to hold their elections by August 31.

Thompson explained the elections were delayed because of the association’s issues with auditing their accounts.

Thompson is confident following its elections, the association will be re-instated by November when its under-17 competition is set to begin.
