Joseph shortlisted for ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates:

West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph has been nominated for the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) prestigious Men’s Emerging Cricket of the Year award.

Joseph, along with England’s Gus Atkinson, Kamindu Mendis of Sri Lanka and Pakistan’s Saim Ayub were revealed as the first shortlist for its 2024 awards.

The 25-year-old Joseph took 29 wickets in eight Tests and burst onto the scene in January when he took seven wickets in the second Test at the Gabba with an injured toe, to bowl West Indies to their first Test victory in Australia in 27 years.

Playing his first Test series, Joseph produced an incredible performance, claiming 13 wickets from two Tests, including two five-wicket hauls, becoming the first West Indian in 17 years to take a five-wicket haul on Test debut.

Later in the’s year, Joseph was clinical in the home series against Bangladesh and South Africa, finishing with 12 wickets from three outings.

For the Women’s equivalent, no player from the West Indies Women team have been included, with South African all-rounder Annerie Dercksen, Scotland’s Saskia Horley, India’s Shreyanka Patil, and Ireland’s Freya Sargent the nominees.

The 2024 ICC awards comprise 12 individual awards, with shortlists in nine categories being revealed by the ICC between December 28 and 30.
