Guyana’s Dharry closes out 2024 with KO win

GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC):

Guyana’s prized fighter, Elton Dharry, delivered another knockout to cement his stellar 27-6-1 professional record last Saturday night in what he described as a nostalgic homecoming at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown.

The WBA number-four-ranked Dharry put in a dominant performance to come away with a second-round knockout over Colombia’s Randy Ramirez in their six-round bantamweight bout.

“I knew mentally I was going to be more prepared than these guys.” I expected Ramirez to be aggressive. He’s young, undefeated, and has some knockouts to his name. I knew he’d come at me hard because I’m the older fighter. He did exactly what I anticipated although he hit harder than I expected. But I was confident I’d take him out later in the fight.”

With his latest victory in the books, Dharry is now turning his focus to a world title fight, set for 2025. The fighter revealed his relentless push to have the bout hosted in his homeland, Guyana.

“May 3, that’s the promise. Originally, I was scheduled to fight for the world title in South Africa on February 15. They even offered to hold it in New York, but I pushed to make it happen in Guyana. This is where I want it to be.”
