Two Rotarians, one each from the Negril and Lucea Rotary Clubs were officially designated as Paul Harris Fellows, during a joint meeting of the clubs at the Grand Palladium hotel in Lucea, Hanover, recently.

The designations went to Lillie Barrows of Negril and her colleague Neville Anderson of the Rotary Club of Lucea. Both were presented with certificates marking their achievements by District Governor Haresh Ramchandani.

The Paul Harris Fellow recognition was established in 1957 to acknowledge individuals who contribute or who have contributions of US$1000, made in their name, to the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.

Paul Harris, was an attorney-at-law who founded the first Rotary Club in 1905 in Chicago, Illinois in the United States. Today, Rotary consists of more than 33,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. The junior arms of the clubs are the Interact Club for youth 12 to 18 and the Rotaract Club which are open to young people between the ages of 18 and 30 years old.

DEDICATED ROTARIAN

The Mission of Rotary is to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian services and advance peace and goodwill worldwide through, among other things, the support of education and the alleviation of poverty

A citation from the Rotary Club of Lucea, was also presented to Anderson, who has been involved in the organisation from an early age. Anderson served as a president of the Interact Club at the Rusea's High School in 1986 and later became a member of the Rotary Club of Lucea in June 2002. He was lauded by his peers as dedicated Rotarian who believes in developing leadership skills and personal integrity and demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others.

"He believes in understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work. He is a no nonsense person when it comes onto his area of expertise," the citation read. "During the fifteen year period, Neville has served every club administration which includes club secretary, director and president."

"Based on your compassion, commitment, contribution and interest to readily assist and impart credible information which continue to positively impact lives and societies, it is quite fitting and proper for Rotary International to recognize you," it added.
