93 children benefit from Rose Hall Football Camp

The 2016 SOS Children's Village Rose Hall Football Camp was held in Montego Bay, St James, recently and featured 93 youngsters from the SOS Children's Village facilities in both Barrett Town in St James and in Kingston.

The week-long programme focused on training participants in the rudiments of football, such as dribbling, controlling, kicking, passing and heading, as well as the importance of teamwork and self-respect.

It was organised this year by Marc and Michael Rollins, sons of developer and former Miss USA Michele Rollins, in conjunction with Rose Hall (Developments) Limited.

"The more programmes they (the children) are exposed to will excite their curiosity and help develop their skills for a better chance of making it in society when they get out," Michele told Western Focus.

"To feed and clothe kids until they are 18 years old is no way to go about living. So for me, football, tennis, remedial activities, homework helper, bond, chess - everything makes them think and grow," she added.

The Rollinses also presented US$10,000 to the SOS Children's Village from proceeds of the One Love Music Festival, held earlier this year in Rose Hall.

Marc Rollins came up with the idea for a football summer camp after attending a sports fun day at the SOS Children's Village in Easter 2003.
