Trelawny superintendent relieved 2016 has ended

Commanding Officer of the Trelawny Police Division, Superintendent Clive Blair, has expressed relief that the year 2016 has come to an end.

He was spotted taking a break close to midnight on New Year's Eve to catch the last few minutes of 2016 and herald the new year at the William Knibb Baptist Church in Falmouth on Saturday night.

"Of all the places that I have served this year in, Trelawny has been my worst experience," the superintendent told Western Focus.

Church services were held across the parish to ring in the New Year. Many of the established churches in Falmouth, including the New Testament Church of God, the Pentecostal church, and William Knibb Baptist Church, were among those which staged services.

At William Knibb, the Reverend Devere Nugent during his sermon said Jamaica's rise in murders could be attributed to many members of the population failing to serve God.

"The mayhem of killing and selling of self is happening because the people have not held on to the Hand of God for guidance," he said as he called on the church community to become standard bearers and bring the word to the people.

Churches were not the only place where the New Year was welcomed. At Caribatick, Gregory King Entertainment held a Because We Care charity ball, which saw food and drinks being served as Scorpion Disco rocked the people with music.
