Glendevon Primary and Junior High celebrates 40 years

The Glendevon Primary and Junior High School in Hendon, St James, is celebrating four decades of existence this year, having opened its doors to the community of Hendon back in 1977.

Minister of Education Ruel Reid has lauded the school as having emerged from its "chrysalis experience" to now having "pupils across varying bands of the socio-economic spectrum in St James".

"A review of your development over the years shows a veritable list of accomplishments of some past students who have epitomised the charge in the school's motto, 'Achieving Excellence Together,'" the minister said in his congratulatory message to the school.

According to principal of the school, Susan Simms, the school has been a positive influence in the life of the community and its environs over the years.

"The celebration of the 40th anniversary of this noble institution provides us with an opportunity to reflect on our journey and what we have become over the years. The school currently educates 300 students and 70 infant, through an extensive variety of academic and extracurricular opportunities," Simms said.

"We aim at always providing educational opportunities that will enhance the optimum development of infants and students physically, spirit-ually, culturally, morally, socially, and academically and catering for their individual needs and aspirations whereby piloting infants and students effectively to use their talents to assist in nation building," she added.

She said the school's curriculum offers diversity in forms of academics, sports, music, culture and dance, and creates a balanced atmosphere for rounded individuals.
