Area One police to stage 150th anniversary concert

The Area One Police will be staging a major concert in Montego Bay, in an effort to strengthen police community relations in western Jamaica.

The event, which is to be held to mark the 150th anniversary of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, is scheduled for Saturday, March 25 in Sam Sharpe Square in the second city.

"We are coming full force to entertain the people of Montego Bay and the wider Area One family," said Deputy Superintendent of Police in charge of the Community Safety and Security Branch in Hanover, Ainsley McCarthy, during Wednesday's press briefing.

According to him, the concert will feature the JCF's choir and band, as well as performances from members of the four Area One parishes of St. James, Hanover, Trelawny and Westmoreland. In addition, McCarthy said several stakeholder groups will also be lending their support for the two-hour event, which is slated to get underway at 6:00pm.

"Also on that day we have a car that is being raffled as part of the 150th anniversary. The ticket is $150 dollars and that will allow you a chance to win the car supplied by Toyota Jamaica," McCarty stated.

The cop further highlighted the upcoming Area One Police Sports Day in April as another activity that is part of the yearlong celebration. He also lauded entities such as the St. James Municipal Corporation which have come on on board to assist in the activities.

"Other activities are coming up later this year and we even have a national event," he said.
