NWC pleads for conservation as drought conditions intensify

As drought conditions worsen and the water available for distribution decreases, the National Water Commission (NWC) is reminding customers served by the Logwood Treatment Plant in Hanover to store water and practise conservation.

According to the NWC, this has become necessary given the 80 per cent decline in the raw water inflows.

"Regrettably, since the last update in February, there has been no improvement in output from the facility. Consequently, customers served by this facility will continue to experience either low water pressure or periods without piped water," a release from the NWC said.

"Despite the decline in yield from the source, the NWC has been employing a number of strategies including extension of the supply, from Great River to Green Island and regulation to ensure a more equitable distribution of the available supply," it added.

The utility company said while it is aiming to limit the periods of interruption, customers are being urged to heed the notices.

The areas that will continue to be impacted include West Land Mountain, Red Ground and West End, Negril and its environs.
