Donations on the rise

World Bank

The World Bank announced yesterday that it would provide an additional US$100 million in emergency grant funding to support recovery and reconstruction Haiti.

The bank is also sending experts to work with the government and its international partners to assess needs and losses and plan for recovery and reconstruction.

Brazil

Brazilian foreign minister, Celso Amorim, announced yesterday that his country would send US$15 million to help rebuild Haiti. Initial reports are that 12 Brazilians were killed in the quake.

Scotiabank

Scotiabank yesterday contributed US$250,000 to a special account it opened in Canada to assist with the recovery efforts in Haiti.

The American Red Cross

The American Red Cross has pledged an initial US$200,000 to assist communities impacted by Tuesday's earthquake.

The Red Cross said it is prepared to take further action as local responders assess the situation.

President of Red Cross Jamaica, Dr Joslyn Salmon, disclosed that a delegation from the international body was on its way to Haiti.

Food For the Poor

Ryan Peralto Jr, of Food For the Poor, told journalists that the Bank of Nova Scotia has offered to finance the freight cost of supplies into Haiti.

USAID

USAID had dispatched a disaster assessment response team to establish a communication system.

JDF Coast Guard

Dwight Nelson said the JDF Coast Guard was preparing itself to take supplies and troops by way of two boats to Haiti.

There has been a significant response to the needs of persons in Haiti, who were affected by the major earthquake which have devastated the country.

United Way of Jamaica

Launched a Haiti Restoration Fund to assist with recovery efforts, and donated US$50,000 to start the fund.

Jamaica PublicService Company

Donated J$250,000 to the country.

Jamaica Red Cross

Has a team in Haiti assessing damage to see what the group can do and will be donating funds from fund-raising drive.

Salvation Army

So far two containers of water, non-perishable items and personal hygiene items are ready to be shipped to Haiti. It also provided a team of professionals in the field of emergency disaster services to assist, as well as an Incident Command Centre to facilitate the arrival of volunteers from other countries to assist with food, water and first aid.

This organisation has donated J$100,000, while its staff donated J$12,000.

Adventist Developmentand Relief Agency

It will be giving donation which will be collected from all Adven-tist churches and conferences islandwide.

It will be giving assistance of blankets and clothing as well.

Schools

Hillel Academy and Campion High will be donating proceeds from an ongoing coin drive.
