Give us a chance to revive Air JAMAICA
The Editor, Sir:
The following is an open letter to the Prime Minister:
Honourable PM,
Like many others, I have been watching the situation with Air Jamaica unfold, with much sadness. I am sure that you are quite aware of the sentiment "this little piece of JA that flies" holds in the hearts of many. It is with this concern that I, too, ask that you explore the options in regard to the plan to sell.
We are quite aware of the economic burden that the airline is and the unstable economic times. However, it is in the time of challenge that the greatest opportunity can be found. I ask of you the following:
Has the possibility of a staff cooperative been considered? If so, what in the pilots' proposal does the Government not find favourable?
Have you approached those in the diaspora to consider ownership?
Is it possible for the Government to issue a special bond to Jamaicans to clear the debt.
Sir, I do ask that you engage the people; your fellow Jamaicans, that is. I believe that if we are to ride the economic wave, we have to share together in carving the path ahead.
Give us the opportunity!
I am, etc.,
Roan Daley
