Dominic exchanges pen for microphone

Before Snow from Canada with Informer in the 1990s and Gentleman from Germany with Infatuation in the middle of the past decade, Dominic from England broke ground as a white deejay in the 1980s. His partnership with Peter Metro led to the very popular Cockney and Yardy, as well as Mi Ol' Lady. Dominic also recording Police in Jamaica as a counterpart to Metro's Police Inna England.

Metro said Dominic lived in England and came to Jamaica two years ago to do some shows around Christmas. He first came to Jamaica in about 1985, after Metro met him in a different capacity at a concert in England.

"I met him in England as a journalist. He came to a stage show and he was working for his company. He said, 'I can deejay' and I said 'Deejay mek mi hear'," Metro recalled.

Metro's assessment was that "him sound like we", a result of Dominic's extensive contact with the Jamaican community in England.

So Dominic was encouraged to come to Jamaica and he hung around Volcano producer Junjo Lawes, "but him couldn't buss. So him come to Metromedia and buss". Not only did Dominic record with Peter Metro, but he also performed with him on Metromedia all over the island.

Peter Metro will be all over the island in the coming months, as he said he would be on some five to six shows between now and April, including Follow Di Arrow. Plus, he said, he has already been asked to perform at Reggae Sumfest.

Still, he said this is based on his track record and live performances and he will be recording new material. This includes AIDS, with Truckback Records, and a collaboration with Guidance.

"That is what missing from my career - songs on radio," Metro said.
