Honda makes recall

HOT ON the heels of Toyota's recall woes comes news that another Japanese automaker has fallen asleep at the wheel.
Honda Motor Company issued an airbag recall yesterday that may affect as many as 440,000 Japanese domestic-market vehicles and 380,000 American vehicles.
"The driver's airbag inflators in these vehicles may deploy with too much pressure, which can cause the inflator casing to rupture and could result in injury or fatality," Honda Japan said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The Honda global recall includes some 2001 and 2002 Accords, Civics, Odysseys, CR-Vs and selected 2002 Acura TL vehicles. However, only the 2001 Civic would be affected locally. The fix is a replacement airbag. Sources at ATL Motors indicated that Jamaican consumers would be affected by this recall. This bookends another recall issued by Honda Motors on January 30, which addressed a faulty driver's master window switch. The switch, which is fitted to some right-hand drive Fit models, could possibly, under certain conditions, burst into flames if doused with liquid.
ATL Motors After Sales Manager Sean Ramsay said his company was awaiting further correspondence from the parent company, which would indicate which vehicle identification numbers were affected.
When The Gleaner asked him about recourse for gray market (deportee) vehicle owners, he said: "For gray market vehicle owners, we're still awaiting a response from Honda International."
