Jerking in Portmore
Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer
Imagine going out for a meal: however, instead of the routine rice and peas, there are more tasty alternatives that leave a lingering impression on the palate.
This is the reality at L C Jerk Hut, Shop 15, The Portmore Town Centre, St Catherine.
The Food team visited the well-appointed nine-month-old restaurant and found a great menu.
Roasted breadfruit, yam, sweet potatoes, baked Irish potatoes and turned cornmeal are just some of the menu offerings.
These are companions to jerked chicken, curried chicken, jerked shrimp, chilli chicken, jerked pork and a host of other freshly prepared dishes.
Operator, Karice Southe, says the aim is to do something different.
"Having worked in New York for five years, I observed how patrons loved the Jamaican flavour, so I decided to do this upon my return," Southe said.
The decor features natural touches of bamboo counter, and a water fountain fashioned from clay pots.
"I really like the menu here, it gives you options, plus the food is very tasty," Kerry-Ann Carr said, while enjoying her shrimps.
There is also a variety of fresh fruit juices to choose from.
