Sam Taylor debuts for Louis Vuitton

The Spring-Summer 2011 international runway collections came to a close in Paris on Wednesday. There, Jamaica, through Saint International, was well represented.

On the final day of Paris Fashion Week, for instance, Sam Taylor, one of Saint's models, made her sole runway appearance on the prestigious catwalk of Louis Vuitton.

"This is a remarkable turning point for Sam's career," said Deiwght Peters, head honcho at Saint.

Taylor made her Paris debut at the couture shows in the City of Lights in January - lending her lithe silhouette to the vision of couture designer Eric Taibusch. She was the only Jamaican model walking the traditionally exclusive couture shows in Paris.

According to Peters, there were two other Jamaicans working for top French clients, making the season the best for a single Caribbean model agency.

"But we are particularly proud of the story of Sam, who has been steadily building her career over the last three years in a strategically managed way," said Peters.

Taylor, who is from Fletcher's Land in Kingston, was the winner of the 2006 Fashion Face of the Caribbean and started her international career in 2007, appearing for major runway clients, including Vena Cava, Imitation of Christ and others. High-level editorial appearances followed, including Trace magazine's highly celebrated Black Girl's Rule, where she was said to be one of the top new black models in 2008. She also appears on a Levi's promotion.

In recent weeks, several magazines and e-zines featured high-profile editorials with the Jamaican beauty. These included a cover profile in Fantasticsmag by noted lensman Sean P. Watters and a multi-page spread shot by photographer Gilad Sasporta in Paris' Dirty Glam magazine. Her swimsuit-ready frame also graced the pages of Austrian e-zine C-Heads in an editorial by photographer Anna Thiessen.

Taylor is also represented by Muse (New York) and Angels (Paris). According to Conor Kennedy, president of Muse Models, top New York clients had been requesting Taylor since she walked for Luis Vuitton.
